SAVE BARNEGAT BAY

Is a not-for-profit environmental group working to conserve undeveloped natural land and clean water throughout the Barnegat Bay watershed. It was founded in 1971 as a local chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, a leading national environmental organization. The groups efforts to protect natural land take two basic forms. First, it scrutinizes and if necessary objects to development proposals on both the local and state level. Over the years it has taken developers, planning and zoning boards, and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to court. Second, it uses Green Acres, foundation, and other funding to purchase environmentally sensitive land in order to convey it to public ownership as permanently protected natural open space, with appropriate public access allowed.

SAVE BARNEGAT BAY works closely with other local, state and national environmental groups as well as with governmental agencies at all levels. Some of its most effective projects, such as its leadership in advocating the creation of a taxpayer-funded Ocean County Natural Lands Trust Fund, have succeeded as the result of partnerships with other organizations.

The success of its efforts requires support from you. SAVE BARNEGAT BAY is financed primarily by contributions from people throughout the watershed and from non-residents who love Barnegat Bay. Beyond its economic impact, your tax-deductible contribution in any amount allows it to amplify your voice in the protection of Barnegat Bay and its environs. Contributions may be sent to 906 B Grand Central Avenue (Route 35 North) in Lavellette. To learn more about Save Barnegat Bay go to www.savebarnegatbay.org or call 732-830-3600

The race and fitness walk are being held to raise money and awareness for Save Barnegat Bay as well as the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation and the Lavallette PBA 372, Fire Department and First Aid Squad.
